The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a companion dog. The breed is small and muscular with heavy bone structure, a smooth coat, a short face and trademark smile. Prized for its affectionate nature and balanced disposition, they are generally active and alert. They’re known as The Smiling Dogs.
They get along well with children. As with any dog, it’s important to supervise the interaction with children. Staffords are exceptionally gentle, affectionate and patient with little humans.
Staffords needs two things in life - close human contact and a chance to play. They are far too much a people dog to be exiled to the yard, so if you want an outdoor dog who can be left alone for long periods, this is not the breed for you.
Proper training is a must for the Stafford. Obedience is a fun way to develop a close bond of friendship and respect. They love to be with you and take great delight in pleasing you. They take well to training when it’s done in a positive manner with lots of food rewards, praise, and play.
The Stafford is an athletic dog breed with plenty of energy, so routine exercise is very important. They enjoy a walk (20 minutes is ideal), be cautious not to overdo it in warmer weather, as this breed is sensitive to heat.
This is a smart, loving dog who wants and needs to spend lots of time with its people. Staffordshire Bull Terriers are enthusiastic in everything they do. They are tough, courageous, tenacious and curious. They take well to training when it’s done in a positive manner with lots of food rewards, praise, and play. These fantastic dogs are seeking an owner to love them.
Staffordshire Bull Terriers are a dog that very much needs to be a member of the family. They love to have a regular walk, a ride in the car and in general be included in your family’s day-to-day activities. Exercise, affection and discipline are all needed to keep your dog functioning as a happy and healthy pet who gives back a lot more than it receives
Diet is extremely important in a dog’s life, especially a puppy’s, and there are two important criteria that should be met in selecting their food.
Feeding a dry, canned or semi moist form of dog food is acceptable. The good brands of dry dog food are just as nutritious as the other forms. Semi moist and canned foods are more expensive than dry food, so a combination of all three works well for diet and price. A diet that consists mostly of soft foods may cause periodontal (gum) disease. If you choose to give your puppy or dog some table food, be sure that at least 90% of its diet is a high quality commercial food, and that dry food is included.
Grozbolt feeds their pups ‘Advance Small Puppy Dry’, ‘LifeWise Puppy Dry’, and ‘Royal Canin Puppy Dry’ and their adult dogs the adult version these.
Good quality beef mince, rice, veggies, tuna, sardines in oil, mackerel, coconut oil and bone broth are rotated regularly and mixed with their dry food, thereby adding flavour and nutritional benefit.
Grozbolt pups and dogs are also given fresh chicken necks and wings. These are always raw as they work well to clean the pups’ teeth. Pups are never given cooked bones, these can splinter and can cause massive internal problems.
Staffords are happiest indoors with the family, they shed little hair and are easily house-trained. Easy to groom they need only an occasional bath and brushing to keep their coat healthy.
Staffordshire Bull Terriers make excellent watchdogs and will alert their people to approaching strangers. It’s not their style to bark without cause.
